Davis Foulger

I started this site while a Visiting Professor at Oswego State University. It has evolved into a multipurpose public wiki on which the following things are posted and, at least to some extent, collaboratively edited. The primary content collections here include:

My lecture notes for the various classes I teach. The NCA Human Communications and Technology Division Wiki (http://wiki.hctd.org), which I maintain as a collaborative resource for that organization. As I write this it isn't much used. Something to work on, I suppose.
An Ethics discussion wiki that I privatized. It hasn't worked out very well in that form.
An private collaborative wiki in which I can do collaborative paper writing with coauthors. The jury is out on whether that will work, but its work trying.
A private wiki that I maintain my diary on. It resolves a fundamental problem, posed in the course of my recent divorce. My now ex-wife wanted to actually write her privacy on my web sites into the divorce agreement. I use the private wiki site a lot, and consider it a great success, but only a select few can view it. There are occasional empty pointers on this wiki that point to things that have been moved there.

My primary research interests (currently) are "Computer-Mediated Communication Systems" and the "Invention and Evolution of Communication Media".

I have a business, too: http://www.evolutionarymedia.com. It is not a coincidence that my business focuses on the things I am most interested in.

I managed, in visiting the original Wiki (Wiki Wiki Web), to make a lot of people mad. See http://www.c2.com/cgi/wiki?DavisFoulger. The trouble surrounded two pages that I have preserved here. Both were set up as limited tests of Wiki while I worked on setting up my own: MoralQuestionInMedia and SuicideOnChildrensTelevision.

Dear "Lard Nikon" (68.212.140.154): What you did isn't hacking. Anyone who can type can overwrite content on a public wiki. What you did (as a SiteVandal) is about as consequential as spilling applesauce in a high chair. Your mom was inconvenienced for a few seconds and life went on. You can type now, so you are obviously out of diapers. Grow up.

Found this from your home page on c2. I was going to clean up the spam on March 10 (I'm borderline obsessive/complusive about cleaning up!), but it seems your edit page does not have a "revert to previous version" button. That would be most useful for gnomes. Is there an archive of previous versions and/or some way to access page history? -- ?MarkTilley

I keep a backup and can do restores, but I haven't set things up to make that available to everyone. It would be a good thing to do. DavisFoulger
