For those of you who haven't been paying attention, the short paper that the syllabus indicates is due today isn't actually due until April 11.

Index card assignment due today

Based on the group topic you've been assigned, how might your group organize a group presentation on the topic (in terms of subject matter)? What paper topic might you be interested in pursuing within this topic. This will be a starting point for a group discussion on Tuesday.

• Group topics and most group assignments are based on the interest areas you expressed in the most recent index card assignment.
  • Everyone in the group should select a short paper topic based on their interests and the needs of the group in building a group presentation.
  • Note that no group should have two people writing essays on the same topic. Note also that it may be a good thing to discuss your paper with the group as you do your research and prepare to write it.

• Immediate Assignments
  • For Thursday - Groups should come back with three things:
    1. A list of possible topics that might be presented during the group presentation.
    2. A list of short papers, which each member of the group taking on one of the topics from the groups larger presentation topic list. The short paper is described below, but pick a topic that will be interesting for you to research and that does not overlap with anyone else in the group. Everyone should have a different topic. Each should contribute to the group presentation.
    3. A team name. I do not want to refer to you as by team numbers.
  • For next Tuesday (April 4)
    1. 15 "fresh" references. Try to get them into APA format, but I'll be somewhat flexible on that this time. A fresh reference is something no-one in the troup has read before. You can list the text for this course as a 17th and 18th reference, but they don't count as a part of this collection of 15. The same goes for texts you've read in your other communication courses. If its not new to you its not "fresh". Note that this requirement boils out to around 3 references per team member. I suggest meeting at the library as a group and finding these references together, but each team member should wind up with at least three references that can be used in their short paper.
  • For Tuesday (two weeks from today): Short paper 1. Note that I've pushed this back from today, but that you should be starting work on this as a part of your immediate group project as you collect references for the group AND for your short paper. The short paper should take the form of a five paragraph essay. We'll talk about the structure of that essay on Thursday.
